This is my second diary on the issue of rubber mulch, which has become part of the White House playscape, where Sasha and Malia Obama and their friends play.
Their playground surface was made from 1,400 used tires. The tires were ground up and dyed green and called rubber mulch.
Rubber mulch is not good for children or gardens because ground up rubber tires have lots of toxins in them.
Environment and Human Health, Inc. (EHHI) is a group of nine scientists and public health professionals who look where the environment is harming human health.
EHHI has just produced a YouTube video that discusses the dangers of using shredded rubber tires where children play, entitled The Hazards of Rubber Mulch
I hope the Obamas see this video and reconsider their decision to put rubber mulch where children play.
Beside the risk I believe Sasha and Malia endure by exposure to shredded tires, the Obamas are role models for other parents, who will believe that if the Obamas are using rubber mulch then it is a good thing to do.
